Yoga Poses of the Month
This month's theme: Resilience!
Embodying Resilience through practicing strength and balance - building yoga poses cultivates SEL skills of self-awareness, self-management, and responsible decision making. These are important areas for middle schoolers to begin to develop for upcoming life challenges. Practicing these poses gives opportunities to go at your own pace, challenge yourself, and know where your limits are and accept them.
Follow the short sequence of poses in the photos below. You can follow the cueing in the photo descriptions (just mouse over the photo arrows to see them pop up) to teach the poses to yourself, or teach them to your child!

Sit in a comfortable seat, on your shins or cross legged. Outstretch your arms. As you breathe in and out, focus on the feeling of resilience.
Come to stand in a straddle, bend one knee and reach one hand to touch the ground near the foot of that knee, while one arm reaches to the sky. Notice how resilient your legs are in keeping you in this strong pose.
Imagine you are a tall, strong tree. Standing on one leg, bring your other foot to rest on that leg's ankle, calf, or thigh (not on the knee).
